Welcome to Spirit Ranch

Welcome to Spirit Ranch. A dream come true for anyone who loves horses and loves riding trails in the great outdoors. Natural beauty abounds around this family owned ranch and is a great place for equestrian instruction from beginner to advanced.

We make our guests feel like part of the family. Our focus is firmly on horses. Riding is the main event and groups are kept small for individual attention. Spirit Ranch takes pride in providing high quality horses for all experience levels. This is a working ranch. Our stock includes pure bred Arabians and crosses with Thoroughbred - Appaloosa and Paint.

Spirit Ranch provides rustic but comfortable accommodations.

Trail rides are here at the ranch to start with and then we visit nearby Wildcat Mountain and Kickapoo Valley State Parks with 40 miles of trails. If you get tired of riding - there is plenty of time for fishing - hiking - canoeing. For any of you who like to treat yourself to a massage or facial - that too is offered in the privacy of our ranch setting.

If you're really not sure in the saddle we offer Whole Horsemanship Clinics (English and Western). So whether you are a Greenhorn or Old Rusty we can offer you a lot of fun with an easy go at your own pace style of learning. We start from the ground up and explain everything nice and easy. Who knows you may get your own horse someday and this will come in handy.  Besides, you're going to saddle your own horse if you want to ride.

Your vacation days are spent in a lazy easy going day - riding horses in the arena or on trail and for those who really want to work cows - well we got a few here to learn with. Want to try your hand at roping?  It does take a while to get the hang of it.

The food here is served family style - if you are hungry you can fill up with three meals a day and then try to work off that hearty ranch chow with coming out to the barnyard to feed up the critters - gather some eggs and brush down your horse.

The Bunkhouse features a wood burning stove and bar. Watch the leather working be turned into a pair of custom chaps or saddle bags under the master hands. Enjoy counting stars around the campfire on Horse Hill or listen to the drumming of Horse Woman as she sings a coyote song to the moon.

Our Mission

We live in God's Country up here and I want to share it with others who share my passion for riding horses.  Enjoying nature in her many moods and colors. Meet new friends who will become good friends.  Taste good home cooked meals that are healthy are grown right here with no pesticides or chemicals.  We've got plenty of natural manure and feel the same way our Amish neighbors do.  I enjoy having my horses as friends - not just an animal. I like a good natured horse that is willing and easy to ride. That is why I own Arabs and Arab cross horses.  Paints and Appaloosas.  I want to see all of Wisconsin and enjoy the natural beauty of the State Parks.  I also need to catch those wily cows when they get out.  So there is fun and work and pleasure.  Come and join me and lets ride.

General Schedule

DAY 1

Go West Young Miss - I'll meet you at camp.

Bunkhouse Welcome - Stow your gear and find your Welcome Basket. Belly up to the table for some good healthy country cooking - go and meet the horses - If you don't have all the gear you need for riding we can visit Goman's Tack. They've got 50 years of experience and good prices and good advise. Later that night we will have a campfire under the stars and get to know one another. Lets share what you hope to get from your vacation so I won't disappoint you.

DAY 2

Begins with a traditional country breakfast with good strong coffee. We head out to the barn and everyone gets to learn about the workings of a real ranch. We feed up the livestock - gather the eggs and brush down the horses. Everyone learns about horses from the ground up. We go into the arena and learn about Horse Logic from Doc Parker - distant relation of the great Chief Quanha Parker. The great horseman who passed on his love and skill to his heirs. Doc teaches a complete non-abusive training style using the horse's own natural instincts. We will practice all phases and gates of horse riding in the arena. Each rider gets individual attention. We will be prepared for tomorrows events

DAY 3

The healing journey begins. Its now time to breath in the country air and de-stress mind, body and spirit. There is no better way then on the back of a horse. We again begin the day with a good breakfast and coffee. Feed up critters - clean up - saddle up and out we go to travel the trails up and down hill till you get the feel of your horses gates and how to move with them. We have a nice break for lunch and then go back out again. Tonight we have a campfire after dinner and some story telling.

DAY 4

Coffee - breakfast - pack the lunches in the saddle bags - feed up the critters and away we go to Wildcat Mountain to trail ride in one of natures most beautiful spots. We ride up hills and down ravines - cross creeks. Spot turkey - deer and maybe even a hawk or two. What a day - home for dinner and a good nights rest. Did you schedule your massage ahead of time. If not a good hot bath in the old time claw foot tub will work wonders on your muscles.

DAY 5

Teams and Cows. Well this is a Cowgirl Camp - now for some fun - lets go get the cows out back. We can practice roping in the morning and get our muscles worked out with a little ride in the morning and later divide up into teams. Which ever team wins gets the prize - the rest of us shovel

DAY 6

Lets shop til we drop. I thought you might like to see something more than just this place. We are going to visit the local folk. My Amish friends. The candy maker - the quilt maker - the harness maker and the how about a stop at the Holiday Inn for a rest at the pool. Later that evening we can check out the Teepee Restaurant in town for food and drinks. Or for those who want a Western Dance style we can find more fun.

DAY 7

Adios Amigo -

I hope someday you will return - We will start our day the usual way - but don't forget we have some four legged friends we need to say good by to as well. The best way is a farewell ride through a scenic trail up over the hogback or out at Castle Rock Trails. I sure love this country. This is one place you can feel small and yet be a part of the great whole. Lets rub down the horses and give them an extra special grooming with carrots and treats for the wonderful time they let us have.  Horses really are mans best friend - just don't tell the dogs.
